Free Origami Giving Machine near Paris, France

An origami vending machine where you can get origami models for free? It's in Saint-Maur des Fossés in the suburbs of Paris, France!

A Japanese lady recently installed an automated vending machine with traditional origami models in the city of Uchiko, Japan. The origami are sold for very small prices (less than a dollar for each model).

I thought the idea was excellent, so I decided to do the same thing, in my street, giving free origamis to all the persons who will walk by and find my origami foldings beautiful.

Like many origamists, I do a lot of paper folding, and many of my origami foldings end up stacked in a carboard box, and even in more and more boxes! So I have a lot of origamis to give away. If my colorful origamis can bring joy to children and grownups in the neighbourhood, they will be much more useful than in my boxes. :-)

I started with half a dozen models that I designed, and I will regularly change the designs, depending on what I dig up from my boxes, and of course on what the demand will be! Will the cute kitten origami models be adopted faster than the origami Yoda models and the Torpedo Sharks?

The models are sheltered in transparent plastic bags so that they can survive if it rains, and my Yoda asks people who take an origami to leave the bag so that I can reuse it for new models when I restock the origami giving dispenser.

I hope that this amusing project will bring more people to the wonderful world of origami folding, and that some of them will start to fold origami as well. Origami is an easy, fun and creative activity, and all you need is a piece of paper. It's even possible to practice origami in zones where there's no Wi-Fi or when one's smartphone battery is empty! To learn origami, you will find an abundance of tutorials on the Internet, excellent origami books in your local book shop and in your local library, and I recommend to join your local origami club. I'm a member of the French origami society (MFPP), and the meetups and gatherings are a lot of fun!

The French city of Saint-Maur des Fossés was already known for being the birthplace of the collaborative project Open Food Facts (the Wikipedia for food products) and its unique origami pixels fauna and flora. This beautiful city bordered by the Marne river may soon also be known for its free origami vending machine!

If you already practice origami and also have a stash of folded origami models in your cellar or your attic, why not open a free origami dispenser in your city too?
